Learning Hubs

The Learning Hubs (block of learning spaces) have been specifically designed to develop and nurture the vision concept of relating to others and increasing learners’ participation and collaboration.  Much research suggests that, when given the opportunity, learners learn more and receive more feedback when having to contribute in various group situations, therefore the transparent nature of the building design is deliberate.
Each learning hub in the initial years will cater for the following composite groupings.

Year 0/1

Year 2/3/4,

Year 5/6/7/8

Each learner has a guardian who is their advocate, strength nurturer, talent finder, motivator and learning activator.  This adult acts as the individuals’ guardian while situated in the Learning Hub.  The guardian is responsible for initiating and being proactive in communicating with their learners’ parents and families and monitoring the overall achievement and reporting of assessment evidence. The relationship formed between the guardian and student is a critical factor to each learner’s success.

An individual students learning may be activated by any of the guardians within the learning hub.  A key to the learners success is the guardians ability to empower learners to take ownership of their learning.

Learning Hub Helpers

The school encourages the involvement of parents through helping in the learning hubs and is very appreciative of their valuable time and contribution.

Please let your child’s guardian know if you are available to help the school’s programme in any way.

Leaving the School Grounds During School Hours

No child is to leave the school grounds without presenting a note from parents to the guardian. When withdrawing children during the day please sign the withdrawal register at the office and the office staff will call your child’s class for them to come and meet you at the office. This is a safety measure. If you are not collecting your child personally please let the office know who will be.

Library

The school library has a growing collection of books - fiction (including picture books), non-fiction and reference books. Students are encouraged to maximise the use the library. It is open for each lunch hour and at 8.30am in the morning. You will be notified of over- due books and in the unfortunate occasion that a book is lost you will be invoiced.

Lost Property

We encourage you to name all your child’s uniform items.

If a child cannot find an article of clothing in the Learning Hub, they will be encouraged to look in the school lost property box.

School Lost Property Box

This is situated in Learning Hub 4.

Any unnamed items found will be placed in here for children to check.

At the end of each term, these items will be displayed for all in the Learning Hubs to check and claim.

Lunch Time

Students have a supervised seated lunch eating time. If students are bringing a drink to school, water is the preferred option. Could you please make sure that the drink container is re-usable and plastic.

As part of our Greenstar status, Stonefields School is a litter free environment. This means all lunch wrappings will come home in the students lunch box as we have a ‘walk it in, walk it out’ principle. Recyclable waste, such as yoghurt pots and fruit skins will go into the containers provided.

New Entrant Orientation

Starting school is an important milestone in the life of a child. It is a time of change and adjustment both on the part of the child and of his/her parents.

Before your child is due to start school we will send you a letter arranging 2 pre-school orientation visits which both children and parents are invited to attend. These will help you and your child see what happens at school and makes the initial adjustment easier.

During your first pre-school visit the Principal will meet with you to introduce you to the school, our philosophy and routines.

All children stay until 3.00pm from the day they start school.

Parking

The carpark directly outside the front of the school is for staff and visitor parking only. School gates can be busy just before and after school and we encourage you to collect your child from any of the parking bays surrounding the school. If you are within walking distance to school we recommend our children to be travelwise and walk, run or ride to school.

PE and Sport

These are important facets at Stonefields School and all students are encouraged to take an active part. We consider that all students should be given the opportunity to experience a wide range of physical activities, and the emphasis is on attitude, sportsmanship and perseverance in both team and individual sports.

All students are involved in a daily fitness programme and organsied sports activities each week.

Whilst our student numbers are growing we will endeavour to form good relationships with our neighbouring schools to ensure our children can be part of inter-school sports teams and opportunities.

Children are not to bring toys, jewellery or electronic games to school.

The school accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of such items.
